PROJECT INFORMATION

Project name: National Working Group (NWG) on Public Private Partnerships and the MDGs

 

Background
The National Working Group (NWG) is an outcome of the UNDP’s first Caribbean regional initiative held in Guyana in June 2005, which was geared towards establishing a development partnership with the private sector. The NWG was established by the Public Sector (through the Office of the President) and the Private Sector (through the Private Sector Commission) as an instrument to facilitate partnerships in pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The NWG comprises of representatives from the Government of Guyana and the Private Sector with the UNDP Country Office serving as the Secretariat.


Objectives
The main objective of the National Working Group (NWG) project is to support Guyana in achieving the MDGs through broad collaboration with stakeholders in identified sustainable development projects and matching resources with those projects. Specific objectives are:

    • To foster and facilitate national partnerships.
    • To promote sustainable Development Oriented Business Practices (DOBP) 


    Achievements and expected results
    The NWG is programmed to achieve the following:

      • Information sharing to enhance knowledge of MDGs and effectively contribute towards their attainment.
      • Building capacities to effectively develop and implement projects.
      • Advocacy i.e. working with the Private Sector Commission to foster partnerships and stimulate the application of DOBP and mainstream the MDGs in its operations.

EXPECTED OUTCOME

  •  Public/Private sector capacity enhanced to ensure a more collaborative approach to development, taking into account the linkages with human development and the MDGs.

 

EXPECTED OUTPUT

    Capacity of private sector built to improve business processes toward the achievement of the MDGs, including engaging in partnerships for development.
